November 11th, 2009 Kansas City Wine Examiner - Dennis Schaefer
Torrontes is not a widely known grape varietal in this country, perhaps because little, if any, is planted here. Torrontes, however, is the signature white wine grape of Argentina, just as Malbec is their corresponding signature red grape varietal.

Wine Review | 2008 Marquee Mendoza Grazioso
Wednesday, July 15, 2009
2008 Marquee Mendoza Grazioso ($8.99)
From Argentina's Mendoza region, the new vintage of whimsically named (and organic) Grazioso is now 100 percent torrontes grapes (it had been 40 percent in the prior vintage).
A fresh-tasting white with herbaceous notes and hints of muscat aromatics, it's quite dry and takes well to being served chilled. Ideal with spicy Asian foods, it's also a good accompaniment to any main dish that includes fruit as one of its ingredients.
The wine is stocked at Giant Eagle Sawmill, Grapes of Mirth, Tutto Vino, Twisted Vine, Weiland's and Whole Foods Sawmill.

Yelca $11. A bit heavy and raisiny, but still this wine gets it right. The body, nose and everything else about it is rich and robust, but while it pushes candied fruit to the brink, it draws back and showcases brandied cherry, toffee, chocolate and other rewarding flavors in a good way. Sticky and sweet for sure, but not unctuous or cloying.

Wine Review | 2008 Marquee Mendoza Staccato
Wednesday, June 3, 2009
2008 Marquee Mendoza Staccato ($8.99)
Made organically, Staccato is one of the whimsically named wines Marquee is bringing in from Argentina's Mendoza district at great prices.
A blend of 60 percent malbec and 40 percent cabernet sauvignon, it exhibits aromas and flavors of bramble berries, with a moderately tannic finish. It's blessed with good balance -- it won't overpower or deaden the taste buds.
It is carried by Andersons Sawmill, Carfagna's, Giant Eagle Sawmill, Grapes of Mirth, Tutto Vino, Twisted Vine, Vino 100 Short North, Weiland's and Whole Foods.

Wine Review | 2007 Old Hands Yecla Sauvignon Blanc by Bodegas La Purisima
Wednesday, May 20, 2009

2007 Old Hands Yecla Sauvignon Blanc by Bodegas La Purisima ($9.99)
The high, cool elevation in southeastern Spain where the grapes for this dry white are grown accounts for its fresh, floral notes as well as its low-alcohol finish.
The wine is refreshing yet still serious enough to accompany a wide range of foods, from olives to hummus to roast chicken.
It is in stock at Weiland's.

2007 Marquee Victoria Shiraz ($9.99)
This wine offers a purity of syrah aromas and flavors not normally expected anywhere near this price. Add a sound amount of oak, and you have an easy best buy among full-bodied reds from Australia. It is stocked at Anderson's Sawmill, Carfagna's, Grapes of Mirth, Tutto Vino and Weiland's.
